Adult education
Adult education courses cover a wide range of topics and taking an adult education course is popular for many reasons. You don’t have to be academic or have a great track record as a student to benefit from going back to school.
Reason #1 To Get a Qualification
One of the most common reasons for taking a class is to gain a qualification. This could be to catch up on some qualifications you missed either because you failed them first time round or your education was interrupted.
As you progress through your career, it may be necessary to get a few more qualifications to help you get a promotion or keep up with changes. Continuing professional training is essential these days in many careers.
Reason #2 To Follow a Personal Interest or Hobby
Many non-exam classes are taught in adult education and this is a great way to learn more about an area of interest or a hobby. It is also an opportunity to meet people who share your interest, to compare notes and to develop your existing skills to a higher level.
Examples of the type of course available in most cities are yoga, pilates and other forms of exercise. And if you are artistic or musical there is plenty to choose from.
You can start off certain hobbies at home but after a point you need help from an expert if you are going to progress to a higher level.
Reason #3 To Connect Socially
Life has become so much busier than it used to be and the result is that people often don’t have the time to make friends. This is particularly true in large cities, where people often don’t know their neighbours and so have to make an effort to meet other people.
Also when one member of a couple dies or the couple split up, mutual friends may be lost and a class is a good way to get out there and build up some new friendships.
Reason #4 To Keep Your Brain Active
As the population ages, it is crucial for older people to keep their brains in working order. This is recognized as an important way in which to avoid degenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
Reason #5 Keeping up with technology
These days, technology is advancing at an unprecedented rate and it is impossible for many of us to keep up. So a short course in the latest software can help us keep up to speed.
